The Syrian Ambassador in Moscow, Riyadh Hadid, said that his regime would likely take “military measures” in response to the US missile attack on the Syrian regime’s airbase in Homs.
According to Russian state-owned Sputnik, Hadid said that all such measures would be taken in full cooperation with Russia.
In the early hours of Friday, the US Navy launched a cruise missile strike on a Syrian regime airbase in response to their chemical weapons attack that killed almost 100 civilians, mostly women and children.
CNN reported an American official as saying that US warships launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the airbase, where the warplanes that carried out the chemical attacks were based, noting that the attack was ordered by US President Donald Trump.
US probing Russia role in Syria chemical attack
Pentagon spokesman Jeff Davis said that the US military informed Russia of the impending strikes in order to avoid Russian casualties, which would further escalate tensions.
Meanwhile, a White House official said that the attack targeted the Shayrat airbase, which was directly linked to the chemical attacks.
