Ousted Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, is reported to have turned against his main allies, Shia Houthi rebels giving a green light to media outlets affiliated with him to discredit the leader of the militia, Abdul Malik Al-Houthi.

Saleh’s move comes following reports claiming Al-Houthi had threatened to assassinate Saleh, and had called on his media outlets to disgrace the former leaders.

Yesterday, the Saudi Press Agency reported well-informed sources in Sana’a as saying that the Houthis are expected to use the former president as a bargaining chip in future elections where they will offer to hand him over in order to obtain leverage and power.
