Jordan agrees to joint Arab electricity market

Jordan has become the latest signatory to an agreement to establish a joint Arab electricity market.

A memorandum of understanding was first drawn up and signed by the energy ministers of 14 states on the sidelines of the 12th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, which was held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo on 6 April.

Kamal Hassan Ali, assistant secretary-general of the Economic Affairs Sector at the Arab League, praised the level of work that has been accomplished and which is considered a step towards establishing major development projects that benefit Arab citizens.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Algeria, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Union of the Comoros, Kuwait, Egypt, Libya, Morocco and Yemen have all already signed the agreement.
