Iraq’s Bazian Football Club has announced the death of its youth team coach, Moheet.com reported on Monday. Club chairman Zanyar Tawfiq said that Diyar Baker died after being shot during a game with the Peshmerga’s Sulaymaniyah team.
Tawfiq told a press conference that the match referee sent off three Bazian players; this led to clashes between the referee and a number of players, who protested at the red card shown to their teammates.
Without identifying him, Tawfiq said that the killer aimed his gun towards the players and Baker attempted to stop him from shooting them. “The criminal fired three bullets that hit Baker, killing him instantly,” he added.
