A group of Mexican journalists, lawyers and politicians yesterday filed a petition against the Mexican government after it was found to be spying on them using an Israeli programme, Ma’an reported Hebrew websites saying today.
Nine journalists, human rights lawyers and politicians expressed their discontent at the Attorney General’s Office after the New York Times reported that the Pegasus spy programme purchased from the Israeli company NSO had been used to hack their mobile phones.
The programme was accidentally discovered by a human rights activist from the United Arab Emirates last year during an investigation into who was behind the software.

The spyware was found to have been launched from Herzliya, north of Tel Aviv, where NSO has been operating for six years.
Apple was forced to release an update for its iPhones after the spyware was discovered to protect all users.
