Artists from the Gaza Strip have named their new play after the 17 governments that have been formed since the signing of the Oslo agreement 24 years ago.
Mahthoth 17 or “Lucky 17” describes the life of Mahthoth, a shop owner who falls in love with his neighbour and plans to marry her until he is faced with the high expenses of the wedding.
It is then that he decides to start a revolution against the unjust conditions that surround him and his peers including poverty, unemployment and the Israeli blockade.
The play also depicts the life of Gazans under the successive Palestinian governments which have been marred with corruption and negligence.
The 90 minute play took 30 hours of training to perfect.
