PA: Abbas’ visit to Egypt will go ahead

Reported purchase follows major reduction of US financial assistance to Mahmoud Abbas's Palestinian Authority

The Palestinian Authority has denied reports that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has cancelled a planned visit by Mahmoud Abbas this weekend.

Member of Fatah Central Committee, Mahmoud Al-Aloul, rejected the reports in Israeli media and stressed that the trip is due to go ahead.

Palestinian President Abbas is due to arrive in Cairo on Saturday as part of a larger delegation, the Palestinian Ambassador to Cairo, Jamal Al-Shobaki, announced on Tuesday.

He is due to meet his Egyptian counterpart on Sunday, preparations are underway for his arrival.

The pair are expected to discuss bilateral relations, the situation in the Gaza Strip and political developments in the region.

Israel’s i24News had reported that Abbas’ meeting with Al-Sisi has been cancelled adding that the Egyptian president had told his Palestinian counterpart that he would not discuss the Gaza Strip, Hamas, or Abbas’ political foe Mohammed Dahlan with him.
