Former leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood movement Mohammed Mahdi Akef, 89, is in a bad health condition, his daughter said Sunday.
“My father’s health is deteriorating day by day,” Alyaa Akef said on her Facebook page, adding:
He can’t eat or drink and is surviving on serums, which are bad for his health. If he didn’t die from not eating or drinking, he would die from serums
There was no comment from Egyptian authorities on the report.
Akef was arrested after Mohamed Morsi, Egypt’s first democratically elected president, was ousted by the military in mid-2013.
Born on July 12, 1928 Akef was the seventh Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood and he stepped down as the group leader in 2010.
