Libya demands ‘immediate release’ of abducted PM

Members of Libya’s House of Representatives have demanded the “immediate release of former Prime Minister Ali Zeidan without any restrictions or conditions”.

In a statement published by the Libyan Al-Wasat newspaper yesterday, the members stressed the importance of having the “Presidential Council release Zeidan”, condemning what the practices of kidnapping, detention and enforced disappearance.

The statement accused “an armed patrol” of taking Zeidan to an unknown location from a hotel in the capital Tripoli on Sunday.

This was the second time that Zeidan was kidnapped from a hotel after he was forced out of Tripoli’s Corinthia Hotel at gunpoint in October 2013.
