The Moroccan King Mohammed VI made a speech on the 64th anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People in which he said, “Morocco’s commitment to – and interest in – Africa are by no means a coincidence; nor are they the result of transient considerations. They reflect a sense of loyalty to a shared history and illustrate our firm belief that ours is a common destiny.”

King Mohammed VI overlooked the disappointments and failures suffered by his kingdom and instead promoted the “unprecedented successes achieved in the past few months in the African continent”.

The Moroccan King claimed that his country’s policy towards Africa is linked to “a firm approach adopted by Morocco in this regard since the days of the national struggle, and thanks to the country’s spontaneous popular character, and the values of sacrifice and loyalty underpinning it, which inspired liberation movements in the Maghreb and across Africa”.

The King also stressed his enthusiasm in cooperating in order to serve the interests of both countries.  He added: “Morocco has never adopted the policy of providing funds, but instead chose to use its experience and expertise to serve our African brothers because we believe that money does not last, while knowledge is everlasting. They [the Africans] know this and ask Morocco to cooperate with them and support their efforts in a number of fields. “

Morocco has claimed that Algeria presents financial grants in Africa in order to support its approach to the Western Sahara, although all recent evidence has shown Morocco giving millions of dollars to African capitals in order to sway them or keep their positions close to that of Morocco.
