Abbas to revoke recognition of Al-Azhar University if Dahlan heads it

Secretary of the Fatah Central Committee Jibril Rajoub said that the future of Al-Azhar University in Gaza Strip is currently under threat as Mohamed Dahlan is trying to take control of it, Felesteen.ps reported yesterday.

Rajoub said: “[Palestinian President Mahmoud] Abbas received reports stating that Mohamed Dahlan is trying to penetrate and control Al-Azhar University.”

“We advised Abbas to revoke the recognition of the university if Dahlan succeeded to control it.”

He added that Dahlan is pretending to help students at the university, but his hidden aim is to control the institution, but Rajoub is “confident” and “trusts” the students’ “support for Abbas’ legitimacy”.
