The Department of Consular Affairs in the Qatari Foreign Ministry yesterday warned its citizens against travelling to Egypt, the Qatari News Agency reported.

In a statement, the department said that “this warning is because of the security measures imposed by the Egyptian authorities against Qataris when entering Egypt.”

Egypt is one of the countries which has imposed a siege on Qatar along with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain.

All of these countries except Egypt called on their citizens to return home when the siege began.

The Qatari decision came days after a Qatari university student was denied a visa by Egyptian authorities preventing him from attending his final exams at Cairo University, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported.

In July, Egypt stopped issuing visas on arrival for Qatari nationals.
