Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi gave instructions to his country’s armed forces on Tuesday to deal with any terrorist attack, even if it arises from within Syria, Anadolu has reported. Al-Abadi made his comments at a news conference following his weekly Cabinet meeting.
The Prime Minister did not clarify the mechanism under which such security operations would be carried out. However, Iraqi fighter jets have repeatedly launched air raids on Daesh strongholds on both sides of the Syrian border.
According to Al-Abadi, Iraqi forces are now in control of oil refineries in the north. “Our forces control all disputed areas, and Baghdad continues to supply the refineries of the region with oil,” he explained. The Iraqi leader also warned about “a serious terrorist threat” to countries across the region and Europe.
