The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has imposed interim measures on Egypt to stop the execution of 20 people, Arabi21 reported.
The Freedom and Justice Party filed the complaint with the commission on behalf of the prisoners who do not have the right of appeal.
The African Commission has notified Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi of their intended moves in a letter sent on 29 November.
In the letter, the commission informed the Egyptian President that it had accepted the complaint filed by the Freedom and Justice Party and intends to investigate the allegations contained in the complaint.

The commission called on the Egyptian government to submit its report on the implementation of the decision to suspend the death sentences within 15 days.
The complaint said the verdicts were issued based on legal proceedings that lacked the minimum standards required by international or Egyptian law.
The complaint included details of evidence proving serious procedural errors, including obtaining confessions under torture and denying defendants the right to communicate with their lawyers.
