Three months on from the unilateral decision by US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel influential speakers from the fields of journalism, politics, academia and the diplomatic world are gathering in London to discuss the impact.
The event is hosted by Middle East Monitor (MEMO), a UK based not-for-profit media research institute that provides research, information and analyses of primarily the Palestine-Israel conflict, and will take place this Saturday 3rd March in Central London.
Questions to be explored include:
- What are the ramifications of the USA’s decision on Jerusalem?
- What is the response of the international community?
- What role can international negotiations play in any future decision on Jerusalem?
Amongst the speakers considering these questions will be:
- Dr Ahmad Tibi, Member of Knesset, Israel
An Arab-Muslim politician who has served as a member of the Knesset since 1999 and currently serves as one of its ten Deputy Speakers. - Kevin Chamberlain, a former Deputy Legal Adviser for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
During his time as a consultant at the Adam Smith Institute he provided the Palestinian Authority with briefing papers on legal issues, including the status of Jerusalem. - Donald Macintyre, Award winning journalist and author of ‘Gaza: Preparing for Dawn’
The Independent’s Jerusalem bureau chief for eight years between 2004 and 2012, and before that its political editor and chief political commentator.
- Daniel Levy, President of the US Middle East Project
During the government of Israel’s Ehud Barak, Levy worked in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office as Special Adviser and Head of Jerusalem Affairs, following which he worked as Senior Policy Adviser to then Israeli Minister of Justice, Yossi Beilin.
