Israel MK’s ‘witch hunt’ against Arab parliamentarian attending MEMO conference

Member of the Israeli Knesset Anat Berko has attacked Arab MK Ahmad Tibi for his planned participation in a conference on Jerusalem due to be held in London on Saturday, Ehna TV reported.

In a statement entitled “Joint List MK’s travel with the financing of organisations that support terrorism and targeting the legitimacy of the State of Israel”, Berko of the right-wing Likud party wrote:

“MK Ahmed Tibi is preparing to travel next week to a conference in Britain, funded by media organisation Middle East Monitor … and continues to act against President Trump’s decision to move the US embassy to our eternal capital Jerusalem.”

“As a reminder, Tibi is not a member of the Palestinian parliament in Ramallah, but a member of the Knesset in Jerusalem,” the statement continued. “He has no shame!”

In their response to Berko’s statement, Tibi’s office said:

This is a witch hunt and this incitement will not dissuade MK Tibi from participating in this important conference and other conferences which we decide upon, not the racists from the right.

Hosted by MEMO, the one-day conference titled “Jerusalem: Legalising the Occupation” will bring together influential speakers from the fields of journalism, politics and academia to assess the impact of Trump’s unilateral decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
