Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir yesterday made further changes to the security establishment, including the appointment of a new chief of staff.
Reuters quoted a spokesman for the army as saying that Lieutenant General Kamal Abdul Maaruf was appointed as the new army chief of staff replacing Lieutenant General Emadeddin Adawi. The source added that “there are a series of appointments in senior positions in the armed forces”.
Earlier this month, Al-Bashir sacked the director-general of the National Intelligence and Security Service and re-appointed the agency’s former director, Salah Abdallah Mohamed Saleh, to the post.
Saleh, also known as Salah Gosh, helped relaunch talks with the United States after the September 11 attacks on Washington and New York.
