Iraqi court issues arrest warrant for Nineveh former governor

On Sunday, the Nineveh Investigative Court, which is specialised in integrity issues issued an arrest warrant against Nineveh former governor, Atheel Nujaifi.

The Iraqi Commission of Integrity who made the announcement did not explain the charges against Nujaifi.

A source told Anadolu news agency that “the arrest warrant has been circulated to all provinces”.

He added that “the decision came following a lawsuit against Nujaifi in which he was accused of signing advance payments in violation of the law, before Daesh stormed the city of Mosul in 2014”.

Earlier on February, 18th the Russafa Misdemeanor Court on Integrity Cases, Money Laundry and Economic Crimes sentenced Nujaifi in absentia to three years of rigorous imprisonment, travel ban and putting an attachment notice on his movable and immovable assets after he was convicted of corruption.

The former governor of Nineveh says all cases brought against him in Iraqi courts are politically motivated.
