The Moroccan security authorities in the Mediterranean port of Tangier foiled the smuggling of 200,000 tablets of the illegal drug Ecstasy on Monday.

The authorities conducted their operation after receiving solid information from the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) indicating that the illegal substance was hidden in the wheels and rear seat of a car. A 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were in the vehicle at the time.

The security services said investigations are underway to identify any accomplices. They suspect that an international cell is involved in the operation, with cross-border links, mainly in Europe.
