Qatar and Iraq to cooperate in civil aviation safety and security

On Thursday, the Qatari General Civil Aviation Authority announced that it has started to take the first steps in support of the civil aviation sector in the neighbouring Republic of Iraq.

The Authority said that this step reinforces the recent achievements of the Iraqi Airways, which would positively reflect on the situation of air transport in Iraq and the Middle East. It also comes also as part of the Authority’s continued efforts to enhance cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of civil aviation with its counterparts in all neighbouring countries.

The announcement was made during an official visit by HE Mr. Kadhim Finjan al Hammami, Minister of Transport of the Republic of Iraq and his accompanying delegation to the State of Qatar. During the trip he met with HE Mr. Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications and HE Mr. Abdullah bin Nasser Turki Al Subaie, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority Chairman. They discussed how both countries can cooperate in the areas of air transport.

They also agreed on some proposals, including the possibility of exchanging visits, information and expertise and assisting in the preparation and issuance of new regulations and legislations for the safety of civil aviation in Iraq in accordance with the European and US systems.
