Tunisian security and military forces yesterday voted in the municipal elections for the first time in decades.

The Tunisian Independent High Authority for Elections called on all security and military personnel to participate in the municipal elections and to take special measures to protect them during the voting process.

Their votes will be mixed with the ballots of others who are eligible to take part in the elections in an effort to ensure secrecy, the authority said.

In January 2017 the Tunisian parliament approved a bill allowing security and military personnel to participate in municipal elections.
