Amnesty International called on Wednesday for the authorities in Bahrain to release the Shia opposition leader Ali Salman immediately, ThenewKhalij.news has reported.

Amnesty’s call came just one day before Salman was expected to be sentenced by the authorities in the small Gulf State.

“Tomorrow Sheik [sic] Ali Salman, the prisoner of conscience, [is] to be sentenced,” wrote Amnesty on Twitter. “Will Bahrain continue crushing all forms of opinion differences between the government and the peaceful opposition, which opposes its policies?”

The international NGO said that Bahrain should release Salman “immediately and unconditionally.”
