The Freedom Flotilla has set sail from its last stop in Italy and is now heading to the besieged Gaza Strip.

A statement issued by the Turkish humanitarian relief organisation (İHH) said the flotilla organisers had announced that after anchoring in 15 different ports, the activists had departed from their last stop in Italy and were now heading towards Gaza.

The flotilla, which began its journey from Norway and Sweden, includes four ships and is carring medical materials.

The 40 activists onboard the ships organised talks in the cities where they stopped to raise awareness of the 12-year long siege imposed by Israel on the Gaza Strip.
