An Egyptian military court in Cairo yesterday adjourn until 1 August the trial of 292 defendants accused of attempting to assassinate President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and former Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Nayef.
Prosecutors say the defendants assassinated three judges in a minibus in the North Sinai city of Arish, in addition to targeting the hotel in which judges supervising the parliamentary elections in North Sinai were accommodated, which resulted in the killing of two judges, four policemen and another citizen.
The suspects also face charges of attacking North Sinai’s army battalion 101 using mortar shells. They are also accused of planting explosives at a main road in Arish targeting army and police vehicles that pass through the road.
A wave of insurgency that swept North Sinai in the past decade has intensified after the 2013 military coup by Al-Sisi.
