Palestinian Authority (PA) security services expelled PLO member Tayseer Khaled from his office in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, informed sources told Safa news agency.
The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the PA security services raided Khaled’s office after he refused to leave voluntarily in order to allow President Mahmoud Abbas’ aide Nabil Shaat to take his position as head of the PLO’s committee for Palestinian refugees abroad.
Prior to the raid, the source said, Abbas’ aide Saeb Erekat was spent to Khaled in order to persuade him to leave voluntarily, but he refused.
In June, Khaled, who is a senior leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, revealed that Abbas was attempting to take control of his post as he was with all aspects of the PLO. He warned that Abbas had ordered him to leave his position.
“We will not allow the establishment of institutions parallel to the PLO,” Khaled said, referring to the PA’s renaming of the foreign ministry to the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Palestinians in the Diaspora.
Khaled called for respecting the PLO and its institutions, so that any changes which are to be made to it should be discussed and approved by the PLO.
