Palestinian gov’t appoints new deputy PM, info minister

Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina on Thursday was appointed both deputy premier and information minister in the Ramallah-based government of PM Rami Hamdallah.

According to Palestine’s WAFA news agency, the appointment was made following consultations between Hamdallah and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Government spokesman Youssef al-Mahmoud said that Abu Rudeina would formally assume his new responsibilities later on Thursday.

Abu Rudeina, 66, is a longstanding member of the Palestinian Fatah movement’s authoritative Central Committee.
