The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) warned against President Mahmoud Abbas’ decision to close the committee for prisoners and ex-prisoners’ affairs.

The movement said in a statement that “the cancelation of a special commission for prisoners, ex-prisoners affairs is a step that carries serious signals about the Palestinian Authority, the PLO and the official leadership’s future commitment towards the issues of prisoners, martyrs and the wounded and their families on the political and social levels.”

The statement warned that the move is a message to the United States and Israel in light of the nine conditions received by the PA president from the American envoy Jason Greenblatt which included stopping the Palestinian Authority’s obligations towards prisoners, martyrs and the wounded and their families..

Media reports said that Abbas dismissed the head of the Palestinian Committee of Prisoners’ Affairs Issa Qaraqe and replaced him with General Kadri Abu Bakr as minister of prisoners and ex-prisoners.
