The Lebanese army said yesterday that two of its soldiers were wounded by smoke grenades shot by an Israeli army patrol in the town of Rmaish Bint Jbeil.

“An intelligence directorate patrol inspecting a piece of land was attacked by an enemy Israeli patrol that threw six smoke grenades and wounded two soldiers,” Lebanese officials said.

The Lebanese army explained that the intelligence directorate patrol was inspecting an area between the B36 and BP14 points when it was attacked sparking a fire in the area.

The statement added that a Lebanese army patrol, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the Civil Defence immediately arrived in the area and extinguished the flame.

Israel said it was looking in to the claims.
