Hamas yesterday called for the Palestinian Authority (PA) to “immediately” release all political prisoners, especially those on hunger strike.

In a statement the movement went on to call for the PA to use its security forces to protect Palestinians and their property from the daily Israeli raids on the occupied West Bank by occupation forces.

Hamas leader Abdel Rahman Shadid release the statement in the wake of an arrest campaign which saw PA forces detaining 11 freed prisoners, community leaders and clerics.

“We condemn the continued PA detention campaign in the occupied West Bank which targets the Palestinian social fabric,” the press release said.

Islamic Jihad: PA political detention is ‘free service for Israeli occupation’

“The PA action proves that that it is isolated from the reality in the West Bank which is in urgent need of Palestinian unity to face the continuous Israeli aggression at Al-Aqsa Mosque and Khan Al-Ahmar, as well as the US decisions to halt funding to UNRWA and Palestinian hospitals in Jerusalem,” the press release added.

Shadid said the time has come for the PA to stop its “political aggression” on the Palestinians and to stop “depriving” the Palestinians of their basic rights.
