Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) has adopted a new national reconciliation government, which includes 20 federal ministers and 27 state secretaries.
The Sudan News Agency quoted Faisal Hassan Ibrahim, Assistant President of the Republic and Vice President of the NCP for party affairs, as saying that the new cabinet members will be sworn in this evening before President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir. The new cabinet will hold its first meeting on Sunday.
The cabinet reshuffle sees the merger of a number of ministries. Eight ministers from the previous government have been retained, most notably in defence, foreign affairs and oil. New ministers were appointed for interior, finance, irrigation, water resources, electricity, agriculture, forestry, livestock, fisheries and wildlife affairs.
New Prime Minister Moataz Moussa, started intensive consultations a few days ago with all political forces and parties for national dialogue to nominate candidates in the new government. It is expected that this will implement the remainder of the “national dialogue” outputs until the year 2020, which will see the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.
President Al-Bashir announced last Sunday the resolution of the Government of “National Reconciliation” as a necessary step to address the economic situation the country is facing. An efficient and flexible government is being formed, he said, that responds to the aspirations of the Sudanese people to have a dignified life and restore hope.
