Iraqi artillery participated on Sunday in an American-French attack against Daesh on the Iraqi-Syrian borders, the Anadolu Agency reported.
The attack came as part of the activities of the US-led international alliance against Daesh, a statement issued by the Iraqi Defence Ministry said.
According to the statement, “the attack was carried out to stop Daesh members from infiltrating the borders which are secured by our forces.”
The US-led coalition against Daesh consists of around 60 countries and is tasked to support the Iraqi forces and it mainly offers aerial coverage during the campaigns against Daesh.
Iraq declared victory over Daesh in December 2017 however sleeper cells still exist in the country and carry out targeted attacks in a number of areas which the group previously controlled.
