South Korea has announced that it is planning to buy two early warning radar systems from Israel to reinforce its air defences against ballistic missiles, Israel Hayom reported yesterday.
The two systems, codenamed Green Pine Block C, were built by the Israeli government owned ELTA Systems.
An official from the South Korean defence ministry said that his country is to pay $292 million for the radar systems, which, he said, would be deployed in the early 2020s.
Last December, according to Israel Hayom, the South Korean defence ministry said it would buy additional early warning radars after North Korea successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile and declared completion of the “state nuclear force” a month earlier.
