Former Iraqi prime minister Nouri Al-Maliki said his country will not allow its territory to be used to target Iran.

In an interview with National Iranian Radio and Television, Al-Maliki said that Iraq “will not be a member of any alliance formed by the United States and Saudi Arabia against Iran”.

“Iraq will not be part of a coalition led by a state that supports Daesh like Saudi Arabia, which brought war and destruction to Iraq,” Al-Maliki said stressing that the US wants Iraq to join the alliance led by Saudi Arabia.

Former Iraqi interior minister Baqir Al-Zubaidi warned in a statement last month of what he called “the threat of the Arab alliance” which Saudi Arabia is calling for.

“The previous warnings about the existence of a threat to Iraq, Syria and some countries by the so-called Arab alliance, which was formed with US support to implement a new aggression against some countries in the region … has begun to show its features,” he said.
