The Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights (EOHR) has called on the Attorney-General to immediately investigate attacks on journalists outside the Pharmacists Syndicate and to bring the perpetrators to trial in order to preserve the rule of law.

The organisation said in a statement that some of the syndicate’s members attacked eight journalists yesterday morning as they covered the organisation’s general elections.

According to the statement, at least four journalists sustained injuries to the face and body.

The statement explained that Syndicate member, Dr. Karam Kurdi was also attacked after presenting his papers for the elections.

The organisation stressed on the right of media workers to carry out their work freely, without threat and denounced the incident which violates basic human rights.
