Egyptian media reported that TV presenter Mohamed El Ghatit was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 3,000 Egyptian pounds ($167) after he hosted a gay man on his show.
According to the website of Cairo24, lawyer Samir Sabri filed a complaint against Ghatit with the Misdemeanour Court in Cairo after the TV presenter interviewed a gay man on his programme.
The questions, according to Sabri, were “dirty and despicable, while the answers aired directly were worse than the questions and should not be broadcast on satellite or any other media.”
Sabri accused El Ghatit of promoting homosexuality, contempt for religion and calling for spreading obscenity.
Following his release El Ghatit will be under police surveillance for one year.
