Egyptian authorities on Tuesday opened the Rafah border crossing in the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Hundreds of passengers gathered to cross the terminal into the Egyptian territory, according to an Anadolu Agency correspondent.

On Monday, the Hamas-run Interior Ministry in Gaza said the border crossing will be open in both directions, without giving details for how long the crossing will remain open.

On Jan. 7, the Hamas-run Interior Ministry assumed the responsibility of managing the crossing following the withdrawal of Palestinian Authority’s staff.

The Ramallah-based authority said it pulled out its employees due to “Hamas’ practices”.
