Camlica Mosque is now Turkey's largest mosque capable of accommodating more than 40,000 people. The mosque sits on Camlica hill with sweeping views over Istanbul. Construction on the mega project, which was championed by Turkey's president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, started in 2013 at a cost of approximately 150 million Turkish Lira.
