Lebanese President Michel Aoun yesterday called on the European Union and France to help return Syrian refugees to their country.

“As many as 167,000 displaced Syrians have returned from Lebanon to their country,” Aoun said during a meeting with a French parliamentary delegation in Beirut.

Aoun explained that Lebanon is experiencing security stability along the Bekaa border with Syria after the Lebanese army defeated terrorist organisations there, adding that the same state of calm extends to the southern borders where the army is cooperating with UNIFIL forces to maintain stability.

Aoun said he was “working with all his power to maintain the balance between the components of the Lebanese society.”

Meanwhile, the French delegation affirmed France’s support for Lebanon in all fields and on enhancing the joint work of the Lebanese-French Parliamentary Friendship Committee.
