Tunisian Truth and Dignity Commission has issued its report on transitional justice in the country, demanding that the current president, Beji Caid Essebsi, apologise to the Tunisian people for practices during the coup attempt on the rule of President Habib Bourguiba in 1962.
According to The Guardian, the Commission claimed that Essebsi is accused of complicity and management of mass arrests and trials against opponents of Bourguiba following the failed coup attempt.

The Commission also accused Essebsi of complicity in torture and accused former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali of corruption.
In its 150-page report, the Commission called for reforms to “dismantle the system of corruption, repression, and tyranny” within the state bodies, with the aim of the non-recurrence of “human rights violations”.
