Sudanese President, Omar Al-Bashir, held on Sunday an emergency meeting led by the army to discuss the latest political developments in the country.

A source from the Sudanese army told Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA) that President Al-Bashir held an emergency meeting today with the army leadership to observe the current situation and report on it.

The source added that today’s meeting was an extension of another meeting held yesterday between Al-Bashir and the same parties.

In the same context, sources close to Al-Bashir stated that the Sudanese president is getting closer to implementing plan B on the handover of power to the Sudanese army, after making agreements on specific guarantees related to the situation in the country, on the one hand, and the file of the International Criminal Court (ICC), on the other.

The death toll among demonstrators rose to six after the death of a staff member from stray bullets near a building close to the Sudanese army headquarters, where tens of thousands of demonstrators have staged a sit-in since Saturday.

Hundreds of Sudanese citizens continue to flock to the Sudanese army headquarters in Khartoum, joining tens of thousands of protesters as the security forces and police are still attempting to disperse the demonstrators with tear gas and live ammunition.

Eyewitnesses told DPA that the Sudanese army opened the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in the General Command area to shelter the demonstrators and protect them from the police and security forces.
