Thousands of Sudanese on Thursday demonstrated outside army headquarters in Khartoum to demand that executive authority be relinquished to a civilian government, Anadolu Agency reports.
Last week, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir was ousted by the army following months of popular demonstrations against his 30-year rule.
Al-Bashir was replaced by a Military Transitional Council (MTC), which is now running the country’s affairs for a two-year “transitional period” during which presidential elections will eventually be held.
On Wednesday, the Sudanese Professionals Association, which has led months of anti-regime demonstrations, submitted its list of demands to the MTC leadership.
Those demands reportedly include the speedy formation of a civilian government, a civilian presidential council (in which the army would enjoy limited representation) and a functioning parliament.
