Israeli Defence Minister Naftali Bennett announced on Friday that Israel aims to push Iran out of Syria within the upcoming 12 months, Israeli newspaper Jerusalem Post reported.

“I have a goal that within 12 months Iran will leave Syria,” he confirmed in an interview with the Israeli newspaper.

“Iran has nothing to look for in Syria,” Bennett added. “They are not neighbours, they have no reason to settle next to Israel, and we will remove Iran from Syria in the near future.”

The extremist right-wing minister revealed the escalation of Israeli airstrikes against Iranian targets in Syria.

“If in the past the majority of the targets were against lone convoys that entered Syria from Iran, via Iraq, and then to the Golan Heights or Lebanon, the targets are now completely different,” he explained without issuing more details.

Previous Israeli reports spoke about Israeli assassinations of Iranian activists, Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad members inside Syria.
