After closing its borders, Algeria repatriates nationals

The Algerian government began the evacuation of Algerian citizens stranded in a number of countries following its decision to suspend air and sea travel as well as the closure of its land borders to counter the spread of the coronavirus.

Officials in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Transport held a meeting yesterday to implement the plan and arrange for the removal of expatriates starting the same day.

Algerian Airlines said a flight evacuated 180 Algerians from Egypt’s Cairo International Airport yesterday.

The returnees will be subjected to quarantine in a government hotel in the Tipaza area near the capital, Algiers.

Some 744 passengers who had returned from the French city of Marseille yesterday were also placed in quarantine.
