Iraq arrests army officer who stole salaries, fled to Turkey

Iraqi Intelligence services arrested an army officer who allegedly stole the salaries of his peers and fled to Turkey, spokesperson for the Iraqi Commander-in-Chief Yehia Rasool announced in a statement on Twitter.

Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi followed the process of the detention of Colonel Khaled Al-Mafraji, who stole the salaries of the General Directorate of Veterans’ Affairs, Rasool added in his statement

The arrest took place in cooperation with the Turkish authorities.

The military spokesperson warned that the Iraqi authorities will be firm towards anyone who seeks to harm citizens’ security or the rights of army personnel.
