A rocket landed near the US embassy in Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone without causing any casualties this morning, Anadolu reported.

The agency quoted an Iraqi police officer as saying that “a Katyusha missile has fallen in the vicinity of the US embassy in the Green Zone this morning, without causing casualties.”

The source, who asked not to be named, added that “the missile caused material damage to a number of nearby vehicles.”

The source also pointed out that another missile landed in the Green Zone, adjacent to the Mansour area. No injuries were reported.

No one had claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of going to press.

This comes three days after Baghdad and Washington reached an agreement to withdraw US combat forces from Iraq at the end of 2021.
