Unknown militants yesterday detonated an explosive device near a convoy of the international US-led coalition in the central Iraqi province of Babylon.
Ali Al-Samer, a senior officer at Babylon police, told Anadolu Agency that the explosive device was planted “on the sidewalk of the road.” He added that the attack “partially damaged one of the surrounding trucks.”
Local authorities have opened an investigation into the incident, he added .
The attack was reported to have been the second of its kind in a course of a few hours after a bomb that had been detonated in the Iraqi southern province of Al-Diwaniyah.
Police officer Jamil Al-Husseini told ANadolu that another explosive device planted by “unknown persons had detonated near a convoy of the US-led trucks on the highway in Dhi Qar Governorate.”
He explained that the attack “did not cause significant losses,” noting that the authorities had launched an investigation into the incident. “The attack is the fifth in six days,” the officer added.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The US holds Iran responsible for attacks on its forces in Iraq, saying militias are backed by the Islamic Republic. Tehran denies the claims.
Armed groups in Iraq have warned that they will continue to strike US forces until they withdraw from the country in line with a 2020 parliament decision for all foreign troops to leave.
