Hamas yesterday thanked the Jordanian king for agreeing to allow the entry of the movement’s political bureau chief, Ismail Haniyeh, and the movement’s leader abroad, Khaled Meshaal, to the kingdom to attend the funeral of the group’s former leader Ibrahim Ghosheh.

“All thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II for allowing the brothers’ entry to attend the funeral,” member of Hamas’ Political Bureau, Izzat Al-Rishq, said in a post on Twitter yesterday.

“Brother Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas’ political bureau, and brother Khaled Meshaal, head of Hamas abroad, will arrive in Amman tomorrow, Friday, to attend the funeral of the beloved brother, Ibrahim Ghosheh,” he added.

A prominent Hamas leader, Ghosheh passed away yesterday at the age of 85 in the Jordanian capital, Amman.

Ghosheh occupied several leading positions in Hamas including serving as the movement’s first official spokesman.

His funeral is scheduled to take place after Friday prayers in Amman.
