Five military groups in northern Syria operating under the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA) united under the umbrella the Syrian Liberation Front, Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak reports.

The groups Hamza Division, Mutasim Division and Sultan Suleyman Shah Division, the 20th Division and North Falcons Brigade joined the Syrian Liberation Front which has in its ranks  20,000 armed soldiers, the report says.

“The newly formed military force will continue operations against terror groups and will fulfil its duties under the umbrella of the SNA,” Mutasim Abbas, the general commander of the newly formed military body, said.

Syria has been ravaged by civil war since early 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protesters. Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and more than ten million displaced, according to UN estimates.
