Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the rubble under which more than 16,000 Palestinian children were killed and nearly 90,000 others were injured in Gaza, represent the debris of an international system that has lost its legitimacy, Anadolu reported.

Speaking at the 24th summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Kazakh capital, Astana, Erdogan pointed out that nearly 40,000 innocent people have been killed in indiscriminate Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip. He stressed the need to stop Israel and force it to accept a ceasefire to end this destruction, adding: “Pressure on its government must continue and increase.”

He noted that some principled countries are raising their voices for global justice with sincerity and determination, without succumbing to pessimism in the face of the crises confronting the international system.

Ankara, he added, consistently highlights the weaknesses of the current international system but is working to build an effective and inclusive international system that achieves peace, security, stability and prosperity.
