Senior Hamas leader, Khaled Meshaal, yesterday said that the movement “remains steadfast in its strategy based on resistance until the land and holy sites in Palestine are liberated,” despite the martyrdom of its political bureau chief, Yahya Sinwar.

In a pre-recorded audio message delivered during a memorial ceremony held by Hamas leadership in Istanbul, Turkiye, following the announcement of Sinwar’s martyrdom, Mashaal reaffirmed the movement’s stance.

On Friday, Khalil Al-Hayya, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, announced Sinwar’s death, stating that he “died while engaging and confronting the Israeli army until the final moments of his life.”

Mashaal said: “The movement dedicates its leaders to the cause of martyrdom, dignity, and liberation, aiming to end the Israeli occupation. This includes its founder, Ahmed Yassin, who was assassinated by Israel in 2004.”

Sinwar, Mashaal said, “met his Lord with dignity, and his martyrdom now stands as a symbol for our people, our nation’s citizens, and freedom-loving individuals worldwide.”

“We are committed to staying true to our path, the path of the martyrs, and adhering to our principles, values, and strategy in leadership and resistance. Each time a leader departs, another rises to take their place,” he added.

He stated, “The movement’s leadership will continue to closely monitor the situation on the ground, focusing on the popular support for the resistance in Gaza… The leadership is committed to stopping the Israeli aggression against Gaza.”
